Weaving Workshop

Learn the Art of Backstrap Loom and Guatemalan Textiles

About

Discover the ancient artisan techniques behind Guatemala's intricate textiles by joining a weaving workshop. Meet your local host at your hotel and travel by chicken bus to San Antonio Aguas Calientes, a small town on the outskirts of Antigua. There, you'll visit a culture and weaving school founded by a group of Maya Kaqchiquel weavers. This community project is dedicated to the preservation of textile traditions and artisan work, serving as an act of resistance to social injustice that affects indigenous communities.

At the weaving workshop, the women weavers will share their knowledge and skills with you, teaching you the process of weaving textiles on the backstrap loom and the unique brocade technique that makes the complex textiles from their village so special. Their main mission is to encourage the culture of weaving in young generations and strengthen their identity.

After your weaving workshop, enjoy a rustic lunch with the weavers before returning to your hotel. Book your weaving workshop today and discover the beauty and intricacy of Guatemala's traditional textiles.

This experience begins at 9AM from your hotel in Antigua*.
