Since we began operations, we’ve focused our efforts on transforming the tourism industry towards responsible practices and low impact adventures for rural and local communities. Today we are joining Tourism Declares (Turismo Declara) and are declaring a worldwide climate emergency.

It’s no secret that as the tourism industry can bring an inmense amount of benefits but also takes a heavy toll on destinations and the people who are part of them. Carbon footprint, pollution and waste production, among other factors have continued to grow affecting the future of our natural resources and our precious planet.

It’s time for both, small and large enterprises to take charge and commit towards shifting our activities towards a consicous and responsible operation.

The entire team of suppliers, partners, and collaborators that are part of Etnica are focused on achieving our mission.

Our commitment is based on 8 points of action:

1- Develop a Climate Action Plan within the next 12 months, setting out our intentions to reduce carbon emissions over the next decade.

2- Publicly declare our Climate Emergency Plan and update progress each year.

3- Accept the current IPCC advice that states the need to reduce global carbon emissions to 55% below 2017 levels by 2030 in order to keep the planet within 1.5 degrees of warming. We will ensure that our "Climate Emergency Plan" represents actions designed to achieve this at a minimum, establishing a system for identifying and measuring emissions from our tourism operations and services.

4- Motivate our suppliers and partners to make the same statement; share good practices and actively participate in the Tourism Declares community.

5- Advocate for change: We recognize the need for a system change across the industry to accelerate a just transition to low-emission tourism.

6-Strengthen our agroecology, permaculture and responsible use of water projects in organized groups in different regions of rural Guatemala.

7-Continue developing a a line of products focused on travelers in collaboration with weavers in the Atitlán region using 100% organic materials and natural dyes.

8-Prevent the use of single use plastic in our tours and experiences.

It’s our responsibility to guarantee the existence of natural resources and productivity for future generations.

Join us in this movement and plan a responsible custom trip to Guatemala and the Yucatan Peninsula.
